APRIL MISSION OF THE MONTH
The Shepherd of the Streets
Rev. J. Morris Smith, Th.D., has been the Shepherd of the Streets for 15 years. The Shepherd of the Streets ministry is based on the three ways Jesus ministered: Preaching the Gospel, Healing the sick and Casting out demons.
S.O.S. means “Help” – The Shepherd of the Streets helps with: prescriptions, medical equipment and supplies, oral surgery (a grant from the Lycoming County United Way), vision, bus-passes and gas for doctor appointments, general health issues, hygiene items, towels and washcloths, adult and baby diapers, bedding, baby and laundry needs. Rev. Smith offers clinical pastoral counseling, spiritual, crisis, poverty, family and smoking cessation counseling.
Over $100,000 is needed every year to keep this ministry viable. They do not receive federal or state funds. Individuals, groups, churches, businesses and foundations keep the ministry functioning.
We, at New Covenant, have supported the Shepherd of the Streets since it began many years ago. Hygiene items in the Shepherd of the Streets basket in the narthex are greatly appreciated. Your financial support toward the $100,000 needed each year makes a difference in the lives of many people in need.
Please prayerfully consider making a donation to this worthwhile mission this month. Thank you.
