COST AND JOY OF DISCIPLESHIP:
“God has called us into God’s church to accept the cost and joy of discipleship.” These words are firmly stated every time we say our United Church of Christ Statement of Faith. Joys are abundant at New Covenant. We hear members express them every Sunday to be included in the prayers for the day.
We are an Open and Affirming community of faith – living by the motto, “No matter who you are or where you are on life’s journey you’re welcome here.”
Our outreach ministry includes the operation of Journey House, a transitional housing program for homeless families.
We are a “Creation Justice Church” seeking to be a “green” and to get greener every day. We’ve instituted a “Safe Church” policy and have added a “Little Free Library” and “Blessing Box”.
We attempt to offer a blended worship service each week that is spiritually meaningful to all, as well as a variety of fellowship events, service projects and Christian Educational opportunities for families and individuals of all ages and abilities.
Our building is used regularly by the community; providing office space for the United Churches of Lycoming County, as well as space for their Food Pantry and Rise Up Village Bakery ministries. It is also a place for groups like, TOPS to meet.
Our mission team works in distant places and here at home helping people in need.
Nine members have entered the ministry from New Covenant.
We give well over $10,000 to various local, national and international missions each year. We could regularly fill a room with the food, shoes, mittens and other donated items given to our local missions each year.
Our Music Ministry includes both an Adult and Bell Choir.
Due to the ages of our active youth members, most of our programming this year is being planned as family events and inter-generational programs. As our youth get older, we look forward to a return weekly social, spiritual and service activities..
While these and much more are the joys, there is a cost of discipleship. We are blessed to have many tithers as well as excellent leaders who give generously of their time also, serving the church and the community. We’d love to have you join us to share in the joys and the costs of discipleship in Christ’s name.
